Formatting a tablet PC with Windows XP 2ed

I am purchasing a ThinkPad X41 with a blank hard disk drive. I already have
a copy of Windows XP Professional 2ed. The Tablet PC has its own Certificate
of Authenticity. I have downloaded the latest downloads and drivers from
Lenovo's web site.
I understand that the Tablet PC Edition was built into WinXP 2ed.
Hence: Will I be able to install an operable Windows XP operating system
using the copy of WinXP Pro I already have, the latest downloads and drivers
for the X41 from Lenovo and the COA that accompanies the machine?
Thanks!

How come?
Second hand and the seller not supplying the OS?

I can not say for sure, but I rather doubt that it might work this way.
The TabletPC functionality normally requires the "XP TabletPC edition".

The latter was never sold separately. It was only delivered through the
hardware manufacturers. And most often the manufacturers distributed
their own builds.
As to my experience the key on the machine mostly will not work with any
other OEM-version of WinXP.

You may just try it out. If it works, OK. If not, you'll be in troubles.

The answer is yes & no. I was able to fully install Windows XP Pro SP2, but
did not get the tablet functionality. Worked fine as a WinXP Computer.
Wanting that full "tablet experience" however, I contacted Lenovo/IBM and
purchased the Tablet PC 2005 version for $45.00 & SH and installed it.
Lovely!

That's just normal. The TabletPC things normally do not get installed
this way.

Great to hear that you could get the media! Yi are really lucky. Over
the years we had many postings in this newsgroups complaining about the
fact that the manufacturer did i longer deliver the TabletPC CDs.

Have fun with your now working Tablet.

Apart from that: How about making the move to Vista or Win7?
both OS versions have to offer far more for the TabletPC than XP.
